Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical Hypnotherapy is an intervention that uses the induction of a state of hypnosis together with tailored therapeutic suggestions as primary tools to work on a whole range of medical and psychological problems. These problems may be the result of habitual conditioning, unresolved past events or accumulated stress and anxiety. A jointly formed treatment plan will be discussed and together you will decide on the target outcome for your treatment.

It may be helpful to think of this work as a process of purposeful co-operation between you and the therapist. It may also be helpful to learn that no-one can be realistically hypnotised against their will and when under hypnosis a person is able to reject any suggestions that are offered.

The Hypnotherapist will guide you into an induced trance state where the critical conscious mind can rest and the work is undertaken in conjunction with the inner self or unconscious mind which is both a reservoir of unrecognised potential and knowledge as well as being the unwitting source of many of our problems.

We all in our day to day lives experience natural trance states such as day dreaming, that in between time just before we fall asleep or wake up, being lost in a piece of music. These natural trance states are often accompanied by feelings of deep relaxation and when we work therapeutically with hypnosis these deep relaxation states are often part of the trance experience; but not always. Interestingly highly effective work can be done with relatively light trance states.

Self hypnosis techniques are taught routinely within hypnotherapy sessions which can be a highly beneficial tool to maintain our balanced health and wellbeing particularly through the intentional practice of relaxation.
